I can’t believe how many people don’t seem to put any effort into speculative applications!

Then again, breaking into the market does get very frustrating. For example, I applied to a published job ad for a graduate entry level job in a Manchester PR firm, calling to speak to the HR person for more details, I was asked to email for more details. On doing so I received no response. Emailed again, no response. By this time the closing date was drawing near so I applied with a tailored covering letter (using a friend who already worked there for proofreading!) and CV, and yet again no response!
